BP p.l.c. Affirms its Commitment to Atrion International
with Additional License Purchase
Montreal, Quebec, March 10, 2003 – BP p.l.c. (NYSE:BP) — holding company of one of the world's
largest petroleum and petrochemicals groups—has signed additional license agreements for Atrion
International’s Platform (Content, Rules and Applications) (www.atrionintl.com), as an extension of its
long-term commitment. Atrion is the leading developer of Materials Compliance Solutions for safe, costeffective
management and distribution of hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory compliance
standards. The additional licenses will accommodate BP’s recent acquisition of two new business units—
Veba and Aral.
BP currently uses Atrion’s solutions to generate Material Safety Data Sheets (M)SDS and labels for certain
North American and European operations in 25 countries. The system enables BP to ensure ongoing
compliance with regional and local regulatory requirements in the appropriate language.
By the end of 2003, BP intends to roll out Atrion’s platform to an additional 40 countries. In addition to
managing the generation, review, and storage of approximately 100,000 documents, the system will:
- Address regulatory and language requirements for those countries
- Provide a consistent approach to the global generation of regulatory documentation
- Reduce the risk related to product liability issues
- Provide a global repository for key data, enabling quick access for all parts of the organization
- Allow the generation of compliant SDS/labels
- Reduce cost associated with the generation and distribution of regulatory documents
“BP originally signed a contract with Atrion in February 2000,” said John Phyper, Executive Vice-
President at Atrion. “With the purchase of additional licenses, BP is affirming its long-term commitment to
Atrion and our platform. We’re equally pleased that BP has agreed to work with Atrion in further
enhancing the functionality of our system with respect to future needs.”
